Election Issues

Key Issues for 2009 / 2010 and beyond:
Budget Concerns & Declining Enrolment

Since 2001, the North Vancouver School District has lost over 2,200 students.  Changing demographics, rising enrolment at independent schools, and our critical lack of the types of progressive educational programs currently sought by parents – all are factors leading to a movement of students out of North Vancouver public schools. Neighbouring school districts already offer accessible and innovative programs, and many of our current facilities are underutilized. With more closures threatened, the face of our community may be forever changed.

Community and partner groups need to find creative ways to increase the types of programs we offer and maximize the potential of our school buildings to ensure their future. Projected Budget shortfalls in the coming year need to be strategically reviewed to ensure the continued success of our students, our schools and our communities.

Cyndi believes solutions can be found in:

  • Creating more challenging & innovative programs that will engage and retain students & educators, and give our children the edge to compete in the global market.
  • Using the expertise of our teachers as well as networking with our community leaders to revitalize our School District.
  • Creating cost effective educational programs for children that require specialized programs.
  • Finding innovative ways to ensure that we are using schools to their maximum potential, including using the available space within our schools to provide for childcare, teen, and seniors programs.

Let’s make North Vancouver School District the best place to live and be educated.
